About Us

Learn more about our church and its history.

“No matter where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.” That has become a defining message of the United Church of Christ as a denomination and I have come to know that it is an important message being shared here at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. Hello! My name is Rev. Blair Kirkpatrick and I am the pastor at Plymouth. It has been my joy to serve this unique congregation of loving people who seek to serve Christ by being in service to their community and to each other. We are a growing congregation who welcomes people from all ages and stages in their lives. We want to hear your story and help you feel more connected to God and a fellowship of souls who worship and serve God. We recognize that each faith life is a journey of discovery with both hills and valleys and we seek to be loving companions in both the high and low points of that journey and everywhere between. We do not have all the answers but realize that we are on our own journeys as well. Through it all, we seek to love, serve, encourage, and support each other. That is what we believe God calls us to do. As the pastor, I want you all to know that you are welcome here. Come and join us in worship, prayer, study, or fellowship. The doors are open.

Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ began in the fall of 1889 with a small gathering in Aberdeen’s Opera House. By January of 1890 they dedicated their church and moved quickly to purchase additional property. The congregation worshipped in two different church buildings in the downtown area from 1898-1970. In the fall of 1970, they moved to their current facility at 431 W Melgaard Rd. With its modern and fully accessible space there was great excitement in the possibilities that were ahead for the congregation. The church has seen many ups and downs in its lifetime. Membership changes, financial challenges, and ministry opportunities have been numerous for Plymouth throughout the years. With each new generation Plymouth has worked hard to discern its path in fulfilling God’s purpose. Currently, Plymouth is Reaching Out to the Community in Kindness and Spirit as it looks forward to new ministry and mission opportunities in the community and abroad.
